Timothy Malone 2015 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir
THE WINERY: Timothy Malone is a NY transplant and accomplished Berkeley College of Music musician. Although he loves music, he wasn't satisfied with the means of making a living in the industry. So in the late 90s, he got into bartending and beer production at a local brewery in Norwalk, CT. Through one of the brewery’s manager’s now lifelong friend Lou Montanari Tim was able to expand his pallet greatly into the world of wine which had already grabbed his attention years before. Tim began to take classes and study/make wine for fun on the side when an opportunity came along that started it all. In the early 2000s, he became employed at Fountainhead Wines, a Connecticut/ New York based importer/distributor of artisanal wines. With exposure to great wines, great minds and domestic and international travels under the tutelage of Mark Ancona, Tim’s vision became clearer. Upon tasting a certain Oregon producers’ wine, Tim knew he wanted to get back into production and learn the craft of winemaking. An introduction to Jay Somers happened, which prompted a move to Oregon in 2006. He split his time helping out Walt and Joan Flowers at Flowers Vineyard & Winery in Sonoma, a job he acquired from former head brewer turned viticulturist Randy Czech, and Jay Somers at J.Christopher Wines in the Willamette Valley. He also worked with John Paul and his then assistant winemaker Tyson Crowley at Cameron Winery in 2007. After 2007 harvest, Tim became Jay's assistant remaining until July of 2015. 2012 was the first vintage for Timothy Malone Wines. You will find Tim nowadays, self-employed growing his production, driving around town selling and delivering his wine and spending time with his family.
